Eagle Creek Reservoir on the city’s west side is literally, by a long shot, my most favorite place in Indianapolis. It is a little slice of heaven carved out in the shape of a lake. To me, Eagle Creek is a Midwestern paradise complete with state park scenery and gorgeous sunsets.

There is one restaurant on Eagle Creek, Ricks Cafe Boatyard, and that’s where you will find me and my friends almost every weekend enjoying delicious food after a day of boating. On average, I eat at Rick’s Cafe Boatyard about at least once a week in the summer, so I know a quite a bit about the establishment.

Ricks has a great outdoor patio with lake views from every angle, and plenty of shade for those who want to stay out of the sun. Live music and a fun atmosphere make Ricks a destination stop for people all across the city.

Nice enough for a date night or special family gathering (Rick’s often hosts wedding showers and rehearsal dinners), but casual enough for swimsuits and flip flops. You’ll see a little bit of everything all while maintaining an upscale dining experience for patrons.

My favorite dishes are the Maryland crab cakes and Florida Grouper Reuben. They have a full indoor AND outdoor bar, fresh seafood, and a large menu that will please even the pickiest of eaters.

But the best part about Rick’s is the view! Most of Eagle Creek is a State Park so there are plenty of trees, sailboats, and wildlife. Sunsets are the best part as Rick’s faces West and the sun’s setting silhouette behind the trees is breathtaking.

Some of my best summer memories have been spent on Eagle Creek and on the patio at Ricks Cafe Boatyard. Don’t take my word for it though. Come on out and experience it yourself. Wave hello when you see me.
