Better Being Float Center is a new health and wellness spa bringing the clinical benefits of flotation therapy to the city of Indianapolis. Flotation therapy has been around for quite some time and is experiencing a bit of a resurgence in popularity around the country. People have journeyed to the Dead Sea to float in the moisture and reap the benefits of salty waters. The density attained from a high salt content allows visitors to achieve a natural buoyancy and float without any effort, providing an anti-gravity effect that relieves pressure on joints and soothes aching muscles. This weightless effect is the concept behind modern day floating.
The first float tank was created by John C. Lilly in 1954 to conduct sensory deprivation research. Those who had experienced the therapy spoke highly of how it relieved pain and stress and helped the individuals to achieve better sleep. The work Lilly conducted was aimed at learning more about sensory deprivation but something more came of it.
The health benefits of floating are well documented and supported by meaningful scientific research. The buoyant supersaturated Epsom salt water and the closed-off environment of the float tanks minimize light, sound, gravity and other sensory input we are bombarded with on a daily basis.
Rest and relaxation, pain management and heightened creativity and meditation are all immediate benefits of just one float session.
Better Being Float Center is the first float spa to arrive in Indianapolis. Located on the city’s west side, Better Being Float Center is open from 10am-10pm everyday of the week except Tuesday, or 8am-10pm on the weekends. This oasis of relaxation has everything you need for a rejuvenating experience.
The center has a serene ambiance, complete with hot tea and naturally sourced herbal supplements, and the feeling continues throughout. Floating is a personal affair. You have a personal room, complete with float pod, shower (including shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel), ear plugs, an adaptor cord to plug any music source into, and soothing lights within the pod. It should be noted that you can also float in complete silence or darkness. Upon closing the float pod, anxiety, stress, and tension literally melt away.
Initially the water is pleasantly warm, but very quickly it feels like nothing since the air and water are meant to match the temperature of your skin. The specific feelings experienced by floaters are unique to each individual and each float. I was lucky enough to experience strong feelings of peace and relaxation. If you are a human being, floating will benefit you. Athletes, students, artists, business people, anyone with a pulse should schedule a float. You will be sold on your very first try.
